Patna August 6: The water levels of Ganga River is rising due to continuous rain in the basin of the Son River in Bihar.

The water levels of the Ganga River is rising rapidly in Patna and is nearing the danger mark.

The water levels of the Son River has reached its maximum level in 13 years. According to the Water Resources Department, more than 150 mm of rain has occurred in the catchment area of the Son in the last 48 hours.

Heavy rains in 11 districts of Madhya Pradesh, five districts of Chhattisgarh and one district of Jharkhand are impacting the rivers of South Bihar.

Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has also said that engineers to stay alerted due to unexpected water discharge in the Son River. They have been asked to keep a close watch on embankments.

“The government is ready to deal with any emergency. At present the situation is completely under control. Engineers have been alerted. The water levels of Ganga is rising due to excessive rain in the basin of the Son River,” Chaudhary said.

There has been a lot of rain in the basin area of the Son River in the last 48 hours. Due to this, a record 5 lakh 21 thousand cusecs of water has been released from Indrapuri Barrage.

Due to flooding in the Son River, the water level of the Ganga River is also rising rapidly. The water level of the Ganga River, which was below the danger mark recently, has suddenly increased more than tenfold.

According to the Central Water Commission, the Ganga River in Patna is currently at 49.73 meters, just below the danger mark of 50.60 meters. The danger level at Digha Ghat in Patna is 50.45 meters and the level is 49.54 meters.

The danger level at Gandhi Ghat in Patna is 48.60 meters. The water level has reached 48.52 meters with levels continuing to rise.

Due to the flood in the Son River, water has entered dozens of villages in Rohtas and Aurangabad. The water discharge from Son River has increased more than 22 times in the last 36 hours, exacerbating the situation.

Earlier in 2016, 11.67 lakh cusecs of water had flowed from the Son River and many areas of South Bihar were flooded.
