The Election Commission has recorded 52.84% polling in Bihar by-poll.
Patna November 13, 2024: The Bihar Assembly by-poll for seats concluded peacefully on Wednesday, with the Election Commission has recorded an average voter turnout of 52.84% by 6 PM.
Belaganj in Gaya district recorded the highest turnout at 56.21%, followed by Ramgarh at 54.02%, Imamganj (SC) at 51.01%, and Tarari at 50.10%.
The Election Commission said 38 candidates were in the fray of Bihar by-poll:
According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar, a total of 38 candidates including 5 women, contested these four seats, representing a voter base of 1,202,063 individuals.
Among the contestants, 2 candidates represented the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), 3 were from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), 2 from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and one candidate each from Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAMS), Janata Dal (United) (JD-U), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI-ML).
For the by-election, the Election Commission deployed 1,277 ballot units, control units, and VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) machines across these constituencies.
During the voting process, officials replaced 11 ballot units, 17 control units, and 24 VVPATs to ensure seamless polling and address technical issues.

In the recent Bihar Assembly by-elections, the election Commission organized a total of 1,227 polling stations across four constituencies.
These included 332 stations in Tarari (304 rural, 28 urban), 294 in Ramgarh (282 rural, 12 urban), 346 in Imamganj (329 rural, 17 urban), and 305 in Belaganj (281 rural, 24 urban).
As a preventive measure, district administrations took extensive security actions. Under the Indian Citizen Security Act, authorities acted against 9,246 individuals, and 175 were further processed under the Bihar Crime Control Act.
Additional enforcement operations led to the arrest of two individuals each from the Kaimur and Bhojpur districts, and one vehicle was seized in Kaimur for illegally transporting alcohol.
To ensure smooth polling, the Election Commission deployed a substantial security force, comprising 7,000 personnel and 2,550 home guard Jawans.
Furthermore, the Gaya and Kaimur district administrations set up eight checkpoints along the borders with Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, aiming to monitor cross-border movement and maintain a secure polling environment.
