Patna, August 17, 2026: With the number of electric vehicles steadily increasing across Bihar, preparations are underway to strengthen the city’s EV charging infrastructure.

The Patna District Transport Office (DTO) has identified 48 locations across the district where electric vehicle charging centres will be developed.

Of the 48 locations, 22 priority locations have been identified in areas witnessing high population density and heavy movement of electric vehicles.

The process of securing land for the proposed facilities is underway, with preparations for construction nearing completion.

The proposed network will cater to electric cars, motorcycles, scooters, e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, buses, and other electric vehicles.

Depending on demand, different numbers of electric point machines will be installed at the selected sites.

Around five to six charging machines are planned at five locations, while three to four machines will be installed at several other sites.

The priority locations include AN College, Beur Mor, Bhutnath Road, Government bus stands at Paliganj, Naubatpur, Harishchandranagar, Gandhi College, Kankarbagh Main Road, Khajekalan ganga Path, Gardinibagh, Chitragupt Nagar (Anisabad), Patliputra Station, Patliputra Bus Stand, Karbigahiya side of Patna Junction, Chitkohra Bazaar, Visvesvaraya Bhawan, BNR Road, JD Women’s College, Areas around DPS Rajendra Nagar Bridge, Law College Road, Hanuman Nagar, and others.

The locations have been selected to ensure that EV users can access charging facilities near railway stations, bus stands, major roads, markets, educational institutions, and densely populated areas.

According to DTO data, electric vehicles have been registered in Patna district consistently since 2019. The district currently has 24,191 registered electric vehicles.

Electric two-wheelers account for the largest share, with approximately 10,000 electric bikes and around 5,000 electric scooters.

Electric cars, buses, auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws make up the remaining categories.

Across Bihar, the number of registered electric vehicles has reached 139,593, highlighting the rapidly expanding adoption of electric mobility in the state.

Addressing charging anxiety:

The expansion of public electric point infrastructure is expected to address one of the major concerns among EV users—finding a charging point while travelling.

The issue is particularly relevant for e-rickshaw and two-wheeler users who spend long hours on the road.

Although home charging remains an option for many vehicle owners, public charging points become essential when vehicles run low on power during daily travel.

The proposed network is therefore intended to make electric point more accessible without requiring drivers to make long detours.

Patna District Transport Officer Upendra Kumar Pal said that 48 locations have been selected for the EV sector, where charging centres will be established for the convenience of electric vehicle users.

He added that work on developing the charging network is progressing and that the availability of charging facilities is expected to reduce range anxiety and encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles across Patna.
