PARAM Pragya: IIT Delhi unveils major AI supercomputer facility.

New Delhi, August 8, 2026: PARAM Pragya, a new large-scale supercomputing facility at the IIT Delhi Sonipat Campus, has emerged as a significant addition to India’s artificial intelligence and high-performance computing ecosystem.

The facility is equipped with 400 NVIDIA A100 80GB GPUs, delivering approximately 250 AI petaflops of computing capacity.

It also features 10 petabytes of parallel file system storage, enabling high-speed data access and processing for large-scale AI workloads.

The supercomputing facility operates from a modern data centre powered by approximately 800 kilowatts of energy, allowing researchers to run demanding AI applications around the clock.

Rs 135 crore investment at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus:

The facility has been developed with substantial support from the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), a joint initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Rs 110 crore was provided through NSM for computing infrastructure and data-centre construction.

Rs 25 crore was contributed by IIT Delhi towards construction of the data centre, and C-DAC, the implementation agency under NSM, played a key role in commissioning the facility.

As part of the National Supercomputing Mission’s mandate, 40% of PARAM Pragya’s computing capacity will be made available to researchers and organizations outside IIT Delhi, helping expand access to advanced AI infrastructure across the country.

Applications in healthcare, science and education:

PARAM Pragya is expected to support large-scale research in several areas, including AI for science, AI for healthcare, AI and robotics, AI for education and multilingual AI applications.

The infrastructure will also support faculty and students at IIT Delhi in conducting large-scale AI experiments and research projects.

It is expected to strengthen AI-focused teaching by enabling practical experimentation in both core artificial intelligence and its applications.

The facility has completed testing and benchmarking and is now ready for use by researchers from IIT Delhi as well as external organizations.

With its combination of powerful GPU computing, high-speed storage, and a national-access model, PARAM Pragya represents a major step in strengthening India’s AI and high-performance computing capabilities and could accelerate research and innovation in areas with significant societal impact.
