Patna High Court reserves verdict on 70th BPSC prelims re-exam petitions.

Patna March 19, 2025: The Patna High Court has reserved its decision on petitions seeking a re-conduct of the 70th BPSC Civil Preliminary Examination, after completing the hearing on Wednesday.
The division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar heard the case, which includes multiple petitions and a filed on the matter.
Arguments by the petitioners in Patna High Court:
Senior Advocate YV Giri argued in Patna High Court that BPSC has failed to investigate serious irregularities including allegations of a question paper leak during the exam.
He also pointed out electronic Jammers were non-functional at several centers, raising concerns about malpractice.
Violation of Constitutional Provisions:
“The cancellation of the exam at Bapu Examination Centre (Patna) and the re-examination at 22 centers on January 4, 2025, was termed as an unfair process affecting lakhs of aspirants,” Giri argued in Patna High Court.
Senior Advocate Abhinav Srivastava, representing petitioner Prashant Shekhar, argued that the cancellation of the exam at Bapu Examination Centre (Patna) and the subsequent re-examination at 22 centers on January 4, 2025, violated constitutional provisions.
He pointed out that several questions and answer options were incorrect, leading to unfair evaluation and loss for candidates.
State Government & BPSC Defense:
Advocate General PK Shahi dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, asserting that the exam process was conducted fairly.
The state government maintained that the January 4 re-exam was necessary and properly executed.
The BPSC has already declared the preliminary exam results and announced the main exam dates, arguing that the selection process should continue.

The petitioners demanded a stay on the main examination, but the Patna High Court refused to halt the 70th BPSC recruitment process.
Earlier, Justice Arvind Kumar Chandel directed BPSC and the state government to submit an affidavit by January 30, 2025.
BPSC conducted the preliminary exam on December 13, 2024, for 4 lakh candidates across 912 centers.
Justice Arvind Kumar Chandel had earlier directed BPSC and the state government to submit an affidavit by January 30, 2025.
