
IIT Delhi, July 2, 2025: Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, Government of India, and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote collaboration in research, planning, innovation, and capacity building in the Indian power sector.
The MoU was signed in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Power, CEA, and IIT Roorkee. This strategic partnership seeks to synergize the academic and research strengths of IIT Roorkee with the technical and regulatory expertise of CEA to address key challenges in the power sector and support India’s energy transition.

Under this MoU, both institutions will cooperate in joint research projects focused on power system planning, renewable energy integration, grid reliability and resilience, and energy storage; conduct technical studies and policy analyses to inform evidence-based decision-making; organize knowledge-sharing events such as seminars, training programs, internship, and workshops; develop technical tools and software for power system analysis and long-term planning; customized capacity building programs for professionals from CEA and other power sector entities.
Partnership to enable skill development and sustainable power solutions:
Speaking on the occasion, Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of Central Electricity Authority, highlighted the critical role of academia-government collaboration in achieving sustainable and innovative solutions in the energy sector.
Prof. K.K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, expressed pride in the institute’s legacy of contributing to national development and emphasized the importance of this partnership in fostering applied research and up skilling professionals in the power domain.
This MoU marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s energy infrastructure and ensuring a cleaner, more reliable, and self-reliant power system in alignment with national priorities.
