Patna, May 2, 2026: The Bihar government’s ambitious plan to develop state-of-the-art Greenfield Satellite Townships across 11 major cities has gained momentum, even as fresh political demand emerges for expanding the project’s scope.
Upendra Kushwaha, National President of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and a Rajya Sabha MP, has urged the government to include the Shahabad region in the township initiative.
He met Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary at his residence to press this demand on Saturday.
Demand for satellite township near Sasaram-Dehri:
After the meeting, Kushwaha told the media that while the government’s decision to develop 11 satellite townships is commendable, Shahabad, particularly areas near Sasaram and Dehri, should also be included.
He described the discussion with the Chief Minister as positive and expressed hope that a favourable decision would be taken soon.

He reiterated the same on social media, stating that he is optimistic about Shahabad being developed into satellite townships.
The state government has already approved Greenfield Satellite Townships in Patna (Patliputra), Sonepur (Hariharnathpuram), Gaya (Magadh, Darbhanga (Mithila), Purnea, Saharsa (Kosi), Munger (Anga), Sitamarhi (Sitapuram), Saran (Chhapra), Muzaffarpur (Tirhut), and Bhagalpur.
These townships aim to create modern urban hubs with world-class infrastructure and reduce pressure on existing cities.
Land polling model:
A key feature of the project is the land pooling model, under which 55% of developed land will be returned to original landowners, allocation will be proportional to their land contribution, and the remaining land will be used for infrastructure and commercial purposes.
This approach is expected to boost real estate growth and economic activity while ensuring direct benefit for farmers.
Major focus on Patna expansion:
A flagship component of the project is the proposed Patliputra Township in Patna.
The development will cover areas such as Punpun, Fatuha, Sampatchak, Phulwari Sharif, Naubatpur, Daniyawan, Masaurhi, and rural Patna. Around 275 villages are coming into it.
The objective is to decongest the capital and create planned urban spaces with modern amenities.
Each township will span 800 to 1200 acres, and development will include residential, commercial, and industrial zones. Infrastructure, such as roads, drainage systems, parks, and open spaces, will be created.
The designated development agency will execute the project at its own cost; up to 15% of the land may be allocated to the agency for commercial sale.
The demand by Upendra Kushwaha adds a new dimension to the project, highlighting regional aspirations for inclusion in Bihar’s urban expansion plans.
As the project moves forward, all eyes will be on whether Shahabad is incorporated into this ambitious initiative aimed at reshaping Bihar’s urban landscape.
