Patna, April 14, 2026: In a major political development, Samrat Choudhary is set to become the next Chief Minister of Bihar after being elected as the leader of the BJP legislative Party.

The decision was finalized during the BJP Legislative Party meeting held in Patna, where a consensus was reached among party leaders and allies.

This marks the formal transition from the leadership of Nitish Kumar to a new political phase widely being described as the beginning of the “Samrat Era.”

Samrat Choudhary expressed gratitude to the party leadership and commitment to Bihar:

Following his election, Samrat Choudhary expressed gratitude to the central leadership of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for reposing faith in him.

He stated that the responsibility is not merely a political position but a “sacred opportunity” to serve the people of Bihar.

Emphasizing integrity and dedication, he pledged to fulfill the aspirations of citizens and work toward development, good governance, and prosperity.

Choudhary also highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of party leadership, Bihar would move toward new heights of progress.

Samrat Choudhary has been elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party, paving the way for him to become the next Chief Minister of Bihar.

The decision was taken during a crucial BJP legislative party meeting held on Tuesday at the party’s state headquarters on Veer Chand Patel Path in Patna.

The meeting was presided over by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who had been appointed as the central observer by the party leadership.

Senior leaders, including BJP National President Nitin Nabin, B.L. Santosh, and Bhikhu Bhai Dalsaniya, were also present during the meeting.

During the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha proposed the name of Samrat Choudhary as the leader of the BJP legislative party leader and it was supported by former Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi.

With consensus achieved across the party, Samrat Choudhary is set to lead the BJP and the government of Bihar.

Warm response to Nitish Kumar’s message:

Responding to Nitish Kumar’s message following his resignation, Samrat Choudhary wrote that he has full confidence that Bihar will continue to progress under Nitish Kumar’s guidance.

 He praised Nitish Kumar’s tenure, calling it highly successful and describing his governance model as a source of inspiration for future leadership.

Nitish Kumar reflects on his tenure:

In his farewell message, Nitish Kumar highlighted key achievements of his government since 2005, emphasizing improvements in law and order and development across sectors such as education, healthcare, roads, electricity, and agriculture.

He underscored the government’s commitment to inclusive growth across all sections of society and noted special focus on women and youth empowerment.

Vision ahead: 7 Nishchay-3 framework:

Nitish Kumar also outlined the 7 Nishchay-3 roadmap for 2025-2030, expressing confidence that Bihar will continue to progress rapidly with support from the Central Government.

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for continues cooperation and expressed optimism that Bihar would emerge among the leading states of the country.

With Nitish Kumar’s resignation and Samrat Choudhary’s selection, the stage is now set for the formation of a new government in Bihar.

The transition is expected to be formalized soon with the swearing-in ceremony.

This development marks a significant turning point in Bihar’s political journey—closing a long chapter under Nitish Kumar while ushering in a new phase under Samrat Choudhary’s leadership.
