Patna, April 14, 2026: In a significant political development, Samrat Choudhary has been unanimously elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Legislative Party in Patna, further clearing the path for him to become the next Chief Minister of Bihar.

The decision was taken during a meeting held in the Central Hall of the Bihar Assembly, where leaders of NDA constituents gathered to finalize their chief ministerial candidate.

Nitish Kumar proposes Samrat Choudhary’s name:

In a notable gesture, former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself proposed Samrat Choudhary’s name for the top post. The proposal was accepted unanimously by NDA leaders present at the meeting.

While addressing the gathering, Nitish Kumar said, “I thank you all. As you are aware, I have just met the Governor and submitted my resignation. A new government will now be formed. It is up to you all to carry forward the work. The new government will have my full support and guidance.”

Confidence in Bihar’s growth trajectory:

Nitish Kumar expressed confidence that Bihar would continue its development journey at a faster pace.

He highlighted that significant work is already underway and acknowledged the support being extended by the Central Government led by Narendra Modi.

He added that Bihar is poised to emerge among the leading states of the country and will play an important role in India’s overall progress.

Formal resignation submitted to the governor:

Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar met Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at the Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhavan) and formally submitted his resignation, which was accepted.

Senior leaders, including Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Choudhary, were present during the occasion, marking a smooth transition of power.

With Samrat Choudhary now elected as both the BJP Legislative Party leader and the NDA Legislative Party leader, the final stage is set for the formation of the new government in Bihar. The swearing-in ceremony is expected soon.

This development marks a decisive shift in Bihar’s political landscape—signaling continuity in governance alongside a new leadership at the helm.
