Patna, May 1, 2026: On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, veteran leader Nitish Kumar, who served as the Chief Minister of Bihar for nearly two decades, has vacated the official CM residence at 1 Anne Marg and moved to a newly constructed bungalow at 7 Circular Road.
The new residence has been secured with Z+ category security, reflecting his continued prominence in state and national politics.
The shifting process began early in the morning, with personal belongings transported to the new address.
Prior to the Grih Pravesh ceremony, Buddhist monks performed traditional prayers, and the bungalow was beautifully decorated with flowers.
Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, was also present during the ceremony.
Notably, this residence had earlier functioned as the Chief Minister’s office.
Modern infrastructure and strategic location of Nitish Kumar’s new bungalow:
The bungalow at 7 Circular Road has been constructed using modern technology and is designed to be earthquake-resistant, capable of withstanding strong seismic activity.
To enhance its visual appeal, premium quality grass has been specially sourced from Kolkata for the lawn.
Interestingly, the move has made Nitish Kumar a neighbour of Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The residence of former Chief Minister Rabri Devi is located just two houses away, approximately 200 meters from his new home.
Both properties lie on the southern side of Circular Roar, adding political significance to the locality.
A residence linked to a political comeback:
The 7 Circular Road bungalow holds historic importance in Nitish Kumar’s political journey.
In 2014, following his party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, he stepped down as Chief Minister and appointed Jitan Ram Manjhi as his successor.
It was during that period that he shifted to this residence.

From this address, Nitish Kumar strategized his political comeback, eventually returning to power in 2015.
Although he later moved back to 1 Anne Marg upon resuming office, he retained possession of the 7 Circular Road bungalow.
The significance of Number 7:
The number 7 is believed to hold special significance for Nitish Kumar. Several milestones in his political career are linked to this number, from the beginning of his political journey in 1977 to becoming president of Yuva Lok Dal in 1987.
His flagship governance initiative, Saat Nishchay (Seven Resolves), further underscores this association.

The Bihar government is currently working on its next phase, Saat Nishchay Part 3.
For almost 2 decades, 1 Anne Marg symbolized the centre of power in Bihar, serving as the nerve centre of governance under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
With his recent entry into the Rajya Sabha, his relocation to 7 Circular Road is being seen as the beginning of a new phase in his political journey.
