Patna, May 7, 2026: After the expansion of the Samrat Choudhary cabinet, Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has made a formal entry into active politics, generating widespread discussion across Bihar’s political landscape.
Nishant Kumar promises to follow his father’s footprints:
Speaking to reporters at the Janata Dal (United) state headquarters after taking oath, Nishant Kumar outlined his priorities and vision for public life.
“I will strive to discharge the responsibility entrusted to me with complete honesty. My effort will be to carry forward the developmental work that my father has undertaken in Bihar over the past two decades. I will make every possible effort to fulfill the promises made to the people of the state,” he said.
Nishant Kumar further revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had blessed him and advised him to perform his responsibilities sincerely and diligently.

Referring to Bihar’s development plans, Nishant Kumar spoke about employment generation and industrial expansion in the state.
“We have pledged to generate one crore jobs over a five-year period. Companies from outside are now coming to Bihar, and industries are being established in different districts. Opportunities will also emerge through the development of satellite townships,” he said.
He reiterated that he would continue working in line with the developmental vision associated with Nitish Kumar’s tenure.
“I will carry out every responsibility entrusted to me with integrity and will try to earn the affection and trust of people through my work,” Nishant Kumar said.
Chirag Paswan calls it the beginning of a new era:
Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan welcomed the cabinet expansion and described it as the beginning of a transformative phase for Bihar.
A new era for Bihar begins today. The next five years are going to be a golden period for the state,” Paswan said.
He added that the cabinet expansion represented a combination of Prime Minister Modi’s vision, Nitish Kumar’s political experience, and the youthful energy of the Samrat Choudhary-led government.
The youth have been given opportunities, and Nishant Kumar has also received that opportunity. I have always supported greater youth participation in politics. Development should rise above caste and religion,” he said.

Political observers believe the induction of Nishant Kumar carries significance beyond routine cabinet reshuffling.
His entry is being interpreted as a possible generational transition within the JDU, while the broader cabinet expansion reflects the NDA’s attempt to balance experience, caste equations, alliance management, and youth representation ahead of the future electoral battles in Bihar.
The expanded cabinet of Samrat Choudhary formally took shape as 32 leaders from the NDA alliance were sworn in as ministers during a grand ceremony held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan.
The high-profile event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Nitish Kumar, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, and several senior NDA leaders.
