Gurugram, June 11, 2026: With the monsoon season approaching, the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) have accelerated preparations to mitigate waterlogging and improve drainage infrastructure across the city.

As part of the ongoing preparedness drive, Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya on Thursday inspected several waterlogging-prone areas in Zone-2 along with a team of officials and reviewed the progress of drainage-related works.

During the inspection, the MCG Commissioner visited Sector-1-A, Sector-9, Sector-9, Sector-4, Surya Vihar, and areas near the railway line to assess potential waterlogging risks and evaluate preventive measures being implemented ahead of the rainy season.

Officials stated that the inspection focused on ensuring the timely completion of all drainage and flood-prevention projects so that residents do not face inconvenience during heavy rainfall.

The Municipal Commissioner also reviewed the drainage improvement works being jointly undertaken by the MCG and the GMDA.

He sought updates on the status of various projects and directed officials to maintain both the quality and pace of work.

As part of the monsoon preparedness measures, the MCG is constructing a sump well in Sector-9 to improve water drainage, while the GMDA is water drainage, while the GMDA is carrying out extensive cleaning of the unlined drain running along the railway line.

Authorities believe these initiatives will help speed up the discharge of rainwater and reduce waterlogging in surrounding areas.

During the inspection, Pradeep Dahiya said that all waterlogging-prone locations in the city had already been identified and were under continuous monitoring.

He directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination to effectively manage any emergency situations during the monsoon.

The MCG Commissioner instructed officials to expedite drain-cleaning operations, remove obstructions from drainage channels, and strengthen pumping systems in vulnerable areas.

He particularly emphasized the need for heightened vigilance in low-lying localities and regions adjacent to the railway line, which are highly susceptible to water accumulation during heavy rains.

“The objective of the Municipal Corporation is to provide better civic amenities to residents during the monsoon and minimize problems such as waterlogging. All departments have been directed to work proactively and maintain regular field-level monitoring,” the Commissioner said.

He further instructed officials to ensure immediate response mechanisms in case of waterlogging complaints and to establish a dedicated system for the prompt resolution of public grievances during the rainy season.

Senior officers of Gurugram were present:

Several senior officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection, including Additional Municipal Commissioner Yash Jaluka and Ravindra Yadav, Chief Engineer Vijay Dhaka, Executive Engineers Sundar Sheoran and Tushar Yadav, Assistant Engineers Vivek Beniwal and Sunil Lathar, along with junior engineers and other departmental staff.

Officials briefed the Municipal Commissioner about the progress of various infrastructure projects and the arrangements being made to strengthen drainage systems across the city.

According to the MCG, special focus is being placed on drain desilting, monitoring pumping stations, and improving infrastructure in vulnerable areas.

The civic bodies aim to complete all essential works before the onset of the monsoon to provide relief to residents from recurring waterlogging issues in Gurugram.
