New Delhi September 20: JP Nadda, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said that that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay down the foundation stone of AIIMS in Darbhanga in October this year.
“We have recently got the land for the AIIMS in Darbhanga and PM Narendra Modi will lay down the foundation stone next month,” said JP Nadda, while interacting with the media persons in New Delhi on Friday.
Earlier, the Union Health Ministry wrote a letter dated July 25 to the additional chief secretary of the Bihar Health Department Pratyaya Amrit regarding this project.
As per the letter, the technical team visited the Ekmi-Sobhan Bypass on March 18-19, 2024 submitted its report and said that the proposed site is suitable for construction.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare asked the Health Department of the Bihar government to transfer the required encumbrance-free land to the ministry and had asked to initiate necessary action for the provision of permanent electricity connection of 20 MVA from two alternate sources, four-lane road connectivity and potable water supply of 1.5 MLD required for the establishment of AIIMS Darbhanga.
The Bihar Government has allocated 150.13 acres of land at Ekmi-Sobhan bypass in Darbhanga city and transferred the land to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the construction of AIIMS in Darbhanga on August 12 this year.
“As the place is located in a low-lying area, it needed special design and construction. Hence, we have given the responsibility to IIT Delhi to prepare the design. We have also made HSBC an executive agency of this project,” JP Nadda said.

At present, Bihar has one AIIMS in Patna and the people of the state have a longstanding demand for another AIIMS in North Bihar.
