Roorkee (Uttarakhand), May 21, 2026: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Roorkee), in collaboration with leading industry associations, organized the Industry Academia Meet 2026 to strengthen partnerships between academia, industries, government agencies, and innovation stakeholders.
The event served as a major platform for discussions on innovation, technology transfer, entrepreneurship, research commercialization, and sustainable industrial development.
IIT Roorkee is focusing on a lab-to-market ecosystem:
The meeting witnessed participation from industry leaders, researchers, startups, policymakers, and faculty members, who emphasized the need to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial requirements.
A central theme of the discussions was strengthening the lab-to-market ecosystem to accelerate the transformation of research outcomes and emerging technologies into commercially viable products and scalable industrial solutions.

Addressing the gathering, K. K. Pant, the director of IIT Roorkee, highlighted the importance of Industry-academia collaboration in driving innovation-led growth and developing technologies capable of addressing industrial and societal challenges.
“Such collaborations are aligned with the vision of India’s National Education Policy 2020, which promotes multidisciplinary learning, experimental education, innovation, and stronger integration between academia and industry,” he said.
Support for indigenous and sustainable technology:
Deepak Ramchandran Seth, joint magistrate, Roorkee, appreciated the initiative and stressed the importance of collaborative innovation for addressing regional and national challenges through indigenous technologies, sustainable practices, and research-driven solutions.
He also expressed support for deeper cooperation between industries and academic institutions to promote sustainable growth and technological advancement.
Vivek Kumar Malik, Dean of Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, highlighted IIT Roorkee’s increasing engagement with industries through sponsored research, consultancy projects, intellectual property generation, startup incubation, and technology transfer initiatives.
Meanwhile, Naveen Kumar Navani, Dean of Academia Affairs, emphasized the importance of student participation in industry-oriented learning and research activities.
He stated that stronger collaborations would create more opportunities for internships, experimental learning, collaboration projects, and multidisciplinary problem-solving.
Key challenges discussed:
Participants discussed several critical sectors requiring technological intervention, including pollution control, water resource management, waste and e-waste management, landslide mitigation, sustainability initiatives, and pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging.
Discussions in the pharmaceutical sector focused on process optimization, sustainable manufacturing, regulatory innovation, and advanced drug packaging solutions.
Industry representatives stressed the need for continuous engagement with premiere academia institutions to strengthen collaborative R&D, skill development, internships, and commercialization efforts. Participants collectively agreed to organize regular domain-specific interaction sessions to better understand sectoral needs and facilitate targeted partnerships between researchers and industries.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to building a stronger innovation ecosystem through sustained industry-academia collaboration aimed at technological advancement, industrial competitiveness, and societal impact.
