Dr KK Pathak was relieved by the Bihar Government after his illustrious career, set to join the Central Government.

Patna, April 26, 2025: Senior IAS officer Dr KK Pathak, known for his administrative strictness and outspoken style, was formally relieved from the Bihar state service on Saturday.

The General Administration Department of the Bihar Government issued the official notification on Saturday.

He will leave Bihar after May 1, 2025, for Delhi to take over his new responsibility as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat under the Central Government.

KK Pathak is known for his discipline and fearlessness:

A 1990 batch IAS officer, Dr KK Pathak is widely regarded for his discipline, honesty and fearless administrative approach.

His impending retirement is also approaching, making the possibility of his return to Bihar very low.

This farewell is being seen by many as the end of an era of Bihar administrative history.

KK Pathak contribution to Bihar’s administration:

KK Pathak’s was instrumental in the strict implementation of the Liquor Prohibition Act in Bihar. He personally oversees strict enforcement and conducts surprise inspections across all 38 districts.

As an Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, KK Pathak introduced stringent measures to curb negligence among teachers and school staff.

His surprise visit often led to disciplinary action against erring officials, drastically improving discipline in schools.

In his tenure with the Bihar Revenue and Land Reform Department as an Additional Chief Secretary, he implemented steps to bring greater transparency in land dispute resolutions and survey work.

Pathak’s working style has often polarized opinions with supporters admiring him as an honest, fearless officer who worked strictly according to the rules. Critics, however, describe him as overly strict and sometimes bitter in his behaviour. Regardless of the perspective, his impact on Bihar’s administrative setup has been undeniable.

With his transfer to Delhi, the Central Government gains a highly efficient and rule-bound officer, while Bihar bids farewell to one of its most prominent and discussed administrators.
