Three seats held by Grand Alliance and one by NDA in 2020:

The by-polls for the four vacant assembly seats in Bihar—Ramgarh, Tarari, Belaganj and Imamganj—are crucial as three of them were previously held by the leaders from the Grand Alliance, while one Imamganj seat was held by NDA.

The  Ramgarh assembly was previously held by Sudhakar Singh. He is from RJD and resigned after winning the Buxar Lok Sabha seat.

Tarari assembly constituency was won by Sudama Prasad in 2020 as part of the Grand Alliance. He is a leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) [CPI-ML] and vacated his seat after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Arrah parliamentary constituency.

Belaganj assembly seat became vacant after RJD leader Surendra Yadav won the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Jehanabad seat and resigned from his MLA post.

Imamgang assembly constituency comes under Gaya District and former Chief Minister and patron of Hindustani Awam Morcha Secular (HAMS), Jitan Ram Manjhi, resigned as MLA after winning the Lok Sabha seat from Gaya (reserved).

These by-polls will be a litmus test for Grand Alliance and NDA:

These by-elections will be closely watched, as they serve as a precursor to the 2025 Bihar Assembly election, providing a glimpse into public sentiments.

Both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Grand Alliance are gearing up for the contest.

The outcome could indicate the political mood in the state leading up to the full assembly election next year.
