The election commission recorded 35.65% polling on 8 seats in Bihar till 1 pm.
Patna June 1: The election commission has registered 35.65% polling in Bihar’s 8 seats till 1 pm on Saturday.
The polling is currently underway in Patliputra, Karakat, Sasaram, Buxar, Jahanabad, Patna Sahib, Nalanda and Arrah Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar. Besides them, a by-poll is also taking place in the Agiaon assembly constituency as well.
A maximum of 40.78% polling was registered in Patliputra followed by 39.53% in Karakat and 37.79% in Buxar.
Besides them, the election commission has registered 37.12% in Sasaram, 36.66% in Jehanabad 33.07% in Arrah, 32.94% in Nalanda and 29.22% in Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituencies.
The election commission also registered 33.10% polling in the Agiaon assembly constituency in the by-poll.
In the Patliputra seat, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s eldest daughter Misa Bharti is contesting the election for the third time. She is up against Ram Kripal Yadav of BJP.
In Jahanabad, JD-U has given the ticket to sitting MP Chandeshwar Prasad Chandravanshi while Surendra Yadav is contesting on the RJD ticket. Last time Chandeshwar Chandravansi defeated Surendra Yadav by the margin of just 1751 votes.
In Karakat, a triangular contest is expected due to Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh. NDA has fielded Upendra Kushwaha and the Grand Alliance was given the ticket to Rajaram Singh Kushwaha.
In Buxar, the main contest is between Mithlesh Tiwari of the BJP and Sudhakar Singh of the RJD. However former IPS Anand Mishra and Dadan Singh Yadav alias Dadan Pehalwan brought the battle quadrangular on Buxar.
Nalanda Lok Sabha seat is considered to be the strongest fort of Nitish Kumar. JD-U candidate Kaushalendra Kumar won here in 2009, 2014 and 2019. He is contesting against Sandeep Saurav of CPI-ML.
The contest on the Arrah Lok Sabha seat is to be a one-to-one contest between BJP’s candidate RK Singh and Sudama Prasad of CPI (ML).
Patna Sahib Lok Sabha seat is considered a strong fort for BJP and the party has fielded Ravi Shankar Prasad again. He is pitted against former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar’s son Anshul Avijit.
In Sasaram, Shivesh Ram, son of former MP Munilal Ram is contesting on the ticket of BJP while Manoj Kumar is contesting on the ticket of Congress.
