Patna, April 16, 2026: An important high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Pratyaya Amrit, the chief secretary of Bihar, to review preparations for the Self-Enumeration (SE) phase of the Census of India 2027.
The meeting took place via video conferencing at the secretariat in Patna, with participation from members of the State Level Census Coordination Committee (SLCCC) and Principal Census Officers.
Pratyaya Amrit informed participants about Self-Enumeration starts from April 17 to May 1:
Officials informed that the Self-Enumeration phase will be conducted from April 17 to May 1, 2026, ahead of the first phase of Census operations.
Pratyaya Amrit clarified that the first phase will begin on May 02, 2026, with house listing and house census work, but prior to this, the Self-Enumeration work will start from April 17, 2026, and will continue until May 01, 2026.

He emphasized that the Census is a national priority and directed all officials to strictly follow guidelines issued by the Government of India.
Pratyaya Amrit issued instructions to all District Magistrates (DMs) to identify prominent personalities at district, sub-division, and block levels and encourage them to complete Self-Enumeration first to inspire public participation.
All departments, including directorates, divisions and corporations, must ensure that every officer and employee completes Self-Enumeration within the timeline.
Public awareness campaign:
A strong awareness drive will be launched across the state.
In rural areas, support from Jeevika Didis will be leveraged to maximize outreach and participation.
Pratyaya Amrit said that the ongoing training of enumerators and supervisors at the district level will be closely monitored to ensure smooth execution.
The district officials were directed to complete the technical tasks, including the creation of housing listing blocks and curating them on the CMMS portal within one week.
The meeting began with a welcome address by the Director of Census Operation-cum-Chief Principal Census Officer, who presented a detailed overview of preparedness.

Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries from key departments such as General Administration, Revenue and Land Reforms, also issued necessary guidelines.
Pratyaya Amrit directed all DMs and senior officers to ensure the timely, coordinated, and efficient execution of the Self-Enumeration drive.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to successfully conducting Census-related activities in a structured and time-bound manner.
