Patna, June 8, 2026: Political activity intensified in Bihar on the final day for filing nominations for the Legislative Council elections, with candidates from both the NDA and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) submitting their nomination papers at the State Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Among the prominent NDA candidates, Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar arrived at the Assembly, accompanied by JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Jha, to file his nomination.
Speaking to the media after submitting his papers, Nishant Kumar thanked the party leadership for reposing faith in him.
“I have come to file my nomination as a Legislative Council member. I am grateful for the trust the party has placed in me. I will work towards fulfilling the vision of developed Bihar that my father has envisioned,” he said
BJP leader and Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, popularly known as the Power Star, also filed his nomination.
His arrival at the Assembly in a luxury Land Cruiser attracted considerable attention, while a large number of supporters gathered to welcome him.
He was accompanied by his elder brother, Guddu Singh.
Although Pawan Singh expressed happiness over receiving the opportunity and thanked the BJP leadership, he did not make any detailed remarks to the media.
Nine NDA candidates filed the nomination:
Several other NDA candidates, including Ashraf Ansari of LJP (Ram Vilas), Sanjay Mayukh (BJP), Bharti Mehta (JD(U), Shivrani Devi Prajapati (JD(U), Anil Kumar Thakur (BJP), and Sheela Pandit (BJP), also completed the nomination process during the day.
Senior leaders present on the occasion included Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh and Chirag Paswan, along with other ministers and NDA leaders.

In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan’s presence remained relatively subdued during the nomination process.
Former Legislative Council member Sunil Kumar Singh was the only prominent alliance candidate to arrive for filing his nomination in the morning.
A total of ten candidates are in the fray, including nine backed by the NDA and one by the RJD.
Deepak Prakash was not included in the list:
Meanwhile, questions were raised over the exclusion of Panchayati Raj Minister and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) leader Deepak Prakash from the NDA’s list of candidates.
Responding to the issue, Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar said that the matter was entirely for the BJP to decide and that the party had ultimately not included Deepak Prakash’s name in its final list of nominees.

With nominations now complete, attention has shifted to the upcoming Legislative Council election, where the NDA, on the strength of its numbers in the Assembly, is expected to secure nine seats.
