Patna, May 11, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday inaugurated the much-awaited four-lane road constructed over the Mandiri drain in Patna, marking a significant step toward easing urban traffic congestion and improving drainage infrastructure in the city.

The event was attended by BJP National President Nitin Nabin, who was the chief guest on the occasion.

The Samrat Choudhary government dedicated the newly constructed road to his late father, Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, naming it Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha Path on the occasion of his 77th birth anniversary.

Developed under the Mandiri Drain Project at the cost of Rs 115 crore, the project includes a 1,28meter-long road connecting Income Tax Golumber to Ashok Rajpath.

It has 5.5-meter wide main carriageway (two lane in either side) and a 3.5-meter-wide service lane on both sides.

It is based on a modern RCC box drainage system beneath the road.

In addition to the roadway, the project incorporates footpath, service drains, street lighting, signage, utility ducts, and landscaping, positioning it as a smart urban corridor.

Samrat Choudhary government is aiming to bring traffic relief to commuters:

The new stretch provides a direct link between Income Tax Roundabout and Ashok Rajpath at Bans Ghat.

It is expected to significantly reduce congestion in key parts of central Patna, including Bailey Road, Fraser Road, Buddha Marg and Gandhi Maidan.

Traffic bottlenecks, especially near Central Mall on Buddha Marg during peak morning and evening hours, have long troubled commuters heading toward Ashok Rajpath. Officials believe this alternate route will substantially ease that burden.

Drainage and smart infrastructure boost:

A major highlight of the project is a state-of-the-art RCC box drain designed to enhance water drainage capacity, particularly during the monsoon season.

The improved system is expected to reduce chronic waterlogging issues in surrounding areas.

Yashpal Meena, Managing Director of Patna Smart City Limited, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond road construction and represents a modern urban infrastructure upgrade with both functional and aesthetic benefits.

The foundation stone for the project was laid in December 2021 during the tenure of Nitin Nabin as Bihar’s Road Construction Minister.

The project has now been completed as he serves as the BJP National President.

Prior to the inauguration, Bihar Urban Development Minister Nitish Mishra inspected the site along with Yashpal Meena, confirming that the road would be opened for public use immediately after the formal launch.

Before the inauguration, Samrat Choudhary, on the occasion of the establishment day of Shri Somnath Temple, reached the Shiv Temple located in Khajpura, Patna, seeking blessing of Mahadev for the prosperity of the state.
