Patna, April 24, 2026: Bihar politics reached a crucial moment on Friday as Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary moved a motion of confidence in the Legislative Assembly, marking his first major test since assuming office on April 15, 2026.
During the proceedings, Samrat Choudhary claimed that Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav launched a strong critique of the government, raising concerns over the state’s financial condition and governance.
Opposition’s attack on the Samrat Choudhary government:
Tejashwi Yadav alleged that Bihar is burdened with a debt of nearly Rs 4 lakh crore and questioned how the government plans to undertake development amid financial constraints.
“When there isn’t enough money even for pensions, how will development take place?” he asked, targeting the ruling NDA.
He also criticized the slogan “2025 se 2030, phir se Nitish,” calling it misleading and accusing the BJP of failing to project leadership clarity earlier.

Taking aim at political stability, Tejashwi said Bihar has witnessed 5 governments in a short span of 5 years, describing the state as a ‘political laboratory’ marked by frequent changing of government.
In a sharp remark, he cautioned Samrat Choudhary to hold onto his chair, hinting at possible internal dissent within the ruling coalition.
Tense house proceedings:
The assembly session remained tense, with repeated verbal clashes between treasury benches and the opposition.
While the NDA holds a numerical majority, opposition members raised pointed questions on governance, economic management, and leadership.
Political Stakes:
For Samrat Choudhary, the trust vote is largely seen as a procedural necessity given the NDA’s strength in the house.
However, politically, it assumes significance as a test of stability for the newly formed government.

With sharp rhetoric from both sides, the floor test has become more than a constitutional formality—emerging as a key moment that could shape Bihar’s political narrative in the coming months.
