Vector-borne disease cases rising in Bihar.

Patna August 2: The cases of vector-borne disease are rising in Bihar, with 24 new patients tested positive in the last 24 hours.

Among 24, 9 cases were identified in Patna’s Patliputra Colony, Patna City, Bakipur,  Sampat Chak and Kankarbagh localities.

The total number of dengue patients in Patna reached 68 this session.

Apart from Patna, 3 cases were registered in Gaya, 4 in Muzaffarpur, 2 in Vaishali, 2 in Nalanda, and one each in Saran, Khagaria and Nawada districts.

Since January this year, a total of 299 patients have tested positive in Bihar and among them, 99 patients are the residents of Patna only. 

The health department has issued instructions to all medical colleges and government hospitals to ensure adequate stock of medicines. The medical colleges and Sadar hospital administrations of all 38 districts have been asked to prepare dedicated wards for vector-borne diseases.

The health department has also instructed municipal bodies to take precautionary measures including sprinkling anti-larva medicines in areas prone to mosquito breeding. They have been also asked to use smoke guns to sanitize localities.

“The symptoms of vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria or chikungunya,  include high fever, body pain, headache and vomiting. If any patient has such symptoms, they should consult doctors for further diagnosis. It is crucial to monitor platelet counts in these cases, so patients should not neglect their health,” Dr Patrho Mukherjee, a prominent general physician of Patna.
