Patna, June 1, 2026: Kathy Giles-Diaz, the newly appointed U.S. Consul General based in Kolkata, paid a courtesy visit to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav during her ongoing visit to the state.
The meeting, held at the Deputy Chief Minister’s office in Patna, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring opportunities for collaboration between Bihar and the United States in various sectors.
Bijendra Prasad Yadav briefed Kathy Giles-Diaz about the ongoing development projects:
During the interaction, Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav provided an overview of Bihar’s rich historical heritage and highlighted the state’s ongoing developmental initiatives.
He briefed the visiting delegation on key projects being undertaken by the Bihar government to accelerate economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance public services.
The discussion also included an exchange of views on the regional activities and priorities of the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata.
Both sides explored avenues to deepen dialogue and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
A significant part of the meeting was devoted to deliberations on Bihar’s economic development and the possibility of expanding technical and developmental cooperation.

The Deputy Chief Minister and Consul General Kathy Giles-Diaz discussed ways to support Bihar’s growth trajectory by identifying sectors where expertise, innovation, and collaborative efforts could contribute to the state’s long-term development goals.
Kathy Giles-Diaz was accompanied by a three-member delegation from the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata.
The delegation included Sangita Dey Chanda, Economic Affairs Specialist; Nayantara Shroff, Press and Media Assistant; and Aniruddha Ghosh, Security Liaison Officer.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav expressed his appreciation for the Consul General’s visit and conveyed his gratitude to the delegation for engaging with the state government on issues of development and cooperation.
In turn, Consul General Kathy Giles-Diaz thanked the Bihar government for its warm hospitality and appreciated the state’s vision for development and progress.

Rachna Patil, Secretary (Expenditure) in the Finance Department of the Bihar Government, was also present during the meeting.
The visit is being viewed as a positive step toward strengthening engagement between Bihar and the United States, particularly in areas related to economic development, technical cooperation, and knowledge exchange.
