Six persons were killed and three injured in a tragic road accident in Bhagalpur.

Patna, April 30, 2024: Six persons, including two children, lost their lives and three others were injured late on Monday night when a stone-laden dumber (HIWA) overturned onto a Scorpio SUV at Amarpur village on Bhagalpur-Kahalgaon National Highway number 80.

The accident occurred around 11.30 PM when the dumfer, coming from the Kahalgaon side, lost control and fell onto the oncoming Scorpio.

The victims, residents of Munger district, were on their way to a wedding ceremony in Khidmatpur village under Pirpaiti block.

Six persons trapped inside the SUV:

According to the police, the impact was so severe that the SUV was completely mangled, trapping passengers under the heavy dumfer and stone chip for over an hour.

“We used a JCB machine to remove the debris and rescue the victims,” an officer of Ghogha police station said.

Three injured people were rushed to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur, around 1.30 am.

A survivor’s statement:

One of the survivors, Kailash Das, recounted the horror, “We were trapped inside the debris for an hour and could hardly breathe. I did not know who was alive. Then I became unconscious. When I woke up, I was in the hospital.”

The dumfer, which belongs to a private construction company, has been seized, and police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
