Prashant Kishor has mild symptoms of dehydration and bronchitis on day 3 of the hunger strike.
Patna January 4, 2025: The agitation over alleged irregularities in the BPSC 70th Preliminary Examination has entered its 18th day, with candidates continuing to demand the cancellation of the entire exam.
Prashant Kishor, leader of the Jan Suraj Party, has been on a hunger strike for over 48 hours at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, to show solidarity with the protesters, enduring the cold weather under the open sky.
Health status of Prashant Kishor:
A team of doctors, led by the renowned Dr. Avinash Kumar, examined Prashant Kishor on Saturday. They reported that he is experiencing dehydration and a slight sore throat.
He has been advised to drink 2 to 3 litters of water daily, take extra precautions in the cold weather, and gargle to alleviate his sore throat. Despite these issues, doctors confirmed that his health remains stable for now.
“Prashant Kishor is having mild dehydration and slightly sour throat. We have advised him to gargle regularly. Apart from these minor concerns, his overall health is stable at this point,” Dr Avinash said.
Context of the protest:
The controversy began following reports of a paper leak at the Bapu examination Centre in Patna, which led to the cancellation of the exam at that centre.
However, candidates argue that irregularities were widespread and have demanded the cancellation of the entire exam. Kishor’s involvement has amplified the movement, bringing greater public attention to the issue.
BPSC re-examination:
In a separate development, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducted a re-examination on Saturday at 22 centres. Unlike the previously reported disturbances, this examination concluded peacefully. The Patna district administration deployed special security arrangements to ensure order and prevent disruptions.
As the hunger strike and protests continue, the focus remains on the Bihar government and BPSC’s response to the students’ demands. Meanwhile, the peaceful conduct of the re-examination indicates an effort to restore normalcy while the larger concerns of fairness and transparency remain unresolved.
