NEET paper leak accused Rocky sent to 10 days CBI remand.
Patna July 11: A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) produced Rakesh Ranjan, also known as Rocky, one of the masterminds behind the NEET question paper leak, in the special court of Patna on Thursday.
The Special CBI court has granted a 10-day remand for further investigation. Rocky was previously arrested from Jharkhand on Thursday.
Sources revealed that Rocky was attempting to flee to Nepal. The CBI tracked his movements and apprehended him on Thursday.
Rocky, a relative of the main mastermind Sanjeev Mukhiya, hails from Nalanda district. He was running a restaurant in Ranchi and coordinating operations from there.
Following Rocky’s arrest, the CBI is now searching for Sanjeev Mukhiya, who is currently on the run.
Rocky, being Sanjeev Mukhiya’s nephew, is considered a crucial link in the NEET paper leak case. Investigations revealed that Rocky had booked rooms for 30 to 35 candidates at the Learn Play School in Patna. The leaked question paper was allegedly passed from Sanjeev Mukhiya to Rocky, who had it solved by medical students in Patna and Ranchi before providing it to candidates for memorization.
Earlier on Wednesday, a team of CBI conducted a raid on the house of Shivnandan Yadav, an accused in the NEET question paper leak case, in Gaya district.
The raid took place in Harraiya village under the jurisdiction of Barachatti police station, with assistance from local police. During the raid, important documents were seized.
According to sources, Shivnandan Yadav had a deal with an examination mafia for Rs 40 lakh to obtain NEET question papers and answers. He had already paid an advance of Rs 20 lakh, with the remaining amount to be paid after the results.
The Patna police had exposed the question paper leak case on May 5, the day of the examination, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals.
The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) of Bihar police arrested Shivnandan Yadav during the investigation, which has now been handed over to the CBI.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the CBI arrested two other suspects, Sunny Kumar and Ranjit Kumar, from the Nalanda and Gaya districts, respectively. Sunny Kumar was a candidate in the exam, while Ranjit Kumar was the father of one of the candidates.
