Patna July 22: Lalu Prasad Yadav, the national president of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) demanded the resignation of Nitish Kumar from the post of chief minister on Monday.

 “The central government has refused the special category status to Bihar. Hence, Nitish Kumar should resign from the post of chief minister. We will take special category status for Bihar at any cost. The law and order situation is deteriorated in Bihar,” Lalu Prasad Yadav said.

He also uploaded a post on the social networking platform X and said: “Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar shamelessly gave Bihar a Jhunjhuna (Toy). If not the status of a special state, then give anything to Bihar in the name of a special package! JD (U) bowed down to the BJP saying this.”

The demand for the special category status for Bihar has been a recurring issue, with various leaders from JD (U) advocating for it.

JD (U) leaders’ defense: Earlier, JD (U) Rajya Sabha MP and working president of the party Sanjay Jha had brought up this issue in the all-party meeting, stating that the Central Government should give special state status or arrange for a special package for Bihar.

JD (U) MP Rampreet Mandal also raised this issue in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing that special state status is necessary for promoting the economic development and industrialization of backward states.

Vikay Kumar Chaudhary, the water resource minister of Bihar said: “We have a longstanding demand for special status for Bihar but if any technicalities arise in it the central government should consider at least a special package for backward state like Bihar.”
