Congress will contest the Bihar assembly poll 2025 under the INDIA bloc.

New Delhi March 25, 2025: In a significant political development ahead of the 2025 Bihar assembly election, the Congress Party has officially announced that it will contest the polls under the umbrella of the INDIA bloc.

The decision was made during the high-level meeting chaired by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge with the presence of Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders of the Bihar Congress unit.

Congress alliance with RJD continues:

After the meeting, Bihar state President Rajesh Kumar confirmed that the alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will continue as part of the broader INDIA bloc.

“The Congress party will contest the Bihar assembly election under the INDIA block. Unlike other states, the INDIA bloc is united in Bihar, and we will contest the election with the objective of defeating the BJP-led alliance. BJP is our main opponent in Bihar,” Kumar said while addressing the media persons in New Delhi.

Seat sharing formula yet to be decided:

When asked about the seat-sharing formula, the Congress Bihar president stated that it was too early to comment.

It is premature to say anything at this point. When the election approaches, our leaders will sit together to discuss the seat-sharing formula,” Kumar added.

Despite RJD having declared Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the Grand Alliance, Congress state in-charge Krishna Allavaru stated that the CM candidate will be decided collectively.

The name of the CM candidate will be decided after consultations with leaders of all alliance partners of the INDIA bloc,” Allavaru said.

Addressing the questions about the involvement of Pappu Yadav, Allavaru remarked: The INDIA bloc stands with anyone who stands against BJP.”

When asked about the possibility of Prashant Kishor joining the alliance, he said: A decision will be taken after discussion among the alliance partners.  

During the meeting, Bihar’s former state president Akhilesh Singh, Ramjatan Sinha, Shakeel Ahmed and other prominent leaders were present.

With this development, it appears that the cold war between RJD and Congress has subsided, at least for the time being, strengthening the Mahagathbandhan ahead of the 2025 election.
