Congress has appointed a new state president of Bihar ahead of the 2025 poll to boost the party’s ground strength.

Patna March 18, 2025: The Indian National Congress (INC) has appointed Rajesh Kumar, the sitting MLA from the Kutumba constituency, as the new president of its Bihar unit, replacing Akhilesh Prasad Singh.
This leadership change comes ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
Congress has appointed a Dalit leader to woo voters:
Rajesh Kumar, born in 1969, hails from Obra in the Aurangabad district of Bihar. He completed his graduation in 1989 from St. Columbus College, Hazaribagh, affiliated with Ranchi University, and is a businessman by profession.
He has been representing the Kutumba assembly constituency, which is reserved for the scheduled Caste community, since 2015.
The decision to appoint Rajesh Kumar aligns with the INC’s strategy to strengthen its support among Dalit voters in Bihar.
His elevation is also seen as a move to address internal party dynamics and improve coordination ahead of the elections.
Akhilesh Prasad Singh, who Rajesh Kumar replaces, is a Rajya Sabha MP and was known for his proximity to RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
His tenure faced criticism over the handling of party affairs, including outreach programs and seat-sharing negotiations with allies.
INC wants to revitalize the structure of the party:
This leadership change is part of the INC’s broader efforts to revitalize its organizational structure and electoral prospects in Bihar ahead of the state assembly elections.
Earlier, the grand old party appointed a national media coordinator, two research coordinators and four coordinators.
As per the list, Abhay Dubey has been appointed as national media coordinator, Priyanka Gupta, Prakash Meena, Ritu Singh, and Teena Karamveer are coordinators and Jyoti Kumar Singh, and Satyendra Singh Raghav are research coordinators.
With this, INC has made a strategic move to strengthen its media operations and grassroots presence.
The appointed seven media officials will work in close coordination with the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) to ensure smooth media and publicly-related activities.
This move is seen as an effort to streamline communication and boost INC’ visibility in Bihar.
In a major structural change earlier, the INC central leadership had appointed Krishna Allavaru as the new Bihar in-charge. Signaling a fresh approach.
It has also tasked Alka Lamba, the National Women’s Congress President, to mobilize women voters in the state.
Both Krishna Allavaru and Alka Lamba have been actively touring Bihar and engaging party workers, local leaders and women’s groups.
