Congress reaffirms ‘Mai Behan Maan Yojana’ ahead of Bihar polls, promises Rs. 2500 monthly aid to women.

Patna, May 21, 2025: In a major political move ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the Congress party reiterated the ‘Mai Behin Maan Yojana’, a scheme originally announced by Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav offering Rs. 2,500 monthly financial aid to women if the Mahagathbandhan government comes to power.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Congress State President Rajesh Ram said the scheme is a joint commitment of the INDIA bloc, which consists of six allied parties in Bihar.

“The scheme is based on a unified ideology to empower women. Similar models have already been implemented in Congress-ruled states like Karnataka first and then followed in Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh,’ he stated.

Congress’s vision for women:

Originally unveiled by Tejashwi Yadav months ago, the ‘Mai Behin Maan Yojana’ has now been prominently placed at the center of Mahagathbandhan’s election agenda.

Rajesh Ram emphasized that this is not duplication, but a consensus-based scheme jointly championed by all alliance partners.

“Through these initiatives, we aim to make the women of Bihar self-reliant and economically secure. This is not just a promise it is a guarantee,” he said.

Registration Campaign Launched:

The Congress also launched a poster and missed call campaign to mobilize support. Poster read: “After the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government, needy women will get Rs.2500 monthly honorarium.”

A dedicated missed call number 8800023525 has been issued to enable interested women to register their details easily.

Congress Women National President Alka Lamba echoed the sentiment, calling the scheme the first guarantee dedicated to women by the prospective government.

“This is not merely a declaration it’s a commitment to dignity respect, and right of women,” she said.

During the press meet, Rajesh Ram also targeted the BJP accusing the ruling party of making similar promises in the past but failing to deliver.

He pointed to Bihar’s low female literacy rate and unfilled government job vacancies as signs of the current government’s neglect toward women.

“The Nitish Kumar-led government has deprived women of their rights. There’s no seriousness in addressing employment or education for women,” he alleged.
