Patna, March 24, 2024: With just four days left for filing nominations for the first phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday declared its candidates for 17 seats in Bihar.

The party has dropped two sitting MPs, Ashwini Kumar Choubey (Buxar), and replaced them with Mithilesh Tiwari. Ajay Nishad (Muzaffarpur)—replaced by Raj Bhushan Nishad.

Thakur)—Nawada, Sanjay Jaiswal (former BJP state president)—Paschim Champaran, Radha Mohan Jha—Purvi Champaran, Ram Kripal Yadav—Patliputra, Shivesh Ram—Sasaram (SC), Rajiv Pratap Rudy—Saran. The saffron party—17 seats, JD-U—16 seats (announced earlier Sunday), LJPR—5 seats, HAM-S—1 seat (Jitan Ram Manjhi from Gaya SC), RLM—1 seat (Upendra Kushwaha from Karakat).

Context:

In 2019, the NDA had swept Bihar, but this time the ticket reshuffle signals the BJP’s attempt to balance caste equations and counter anti-incumbency. Notably, Nawada, contested by LJP in 2019, has gone to the BJP’s Vivek Thakur in 2024.
