Patna, August 14, 2025: The Election Commission of India has issued notices to Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Veena Devi and her husband, JDU MLC Dinesh Singh, over allegations of holding dual EPIC cards.

The couple has been directed to submit their replies by 5 p.m. on August 16.

The Election Commission took action following Tejashwi’s post:

The controversy, first flagged by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on social media, alleges that both leaders have their names registered in voter lists of two different assembly constituencies—Bada Daud village in Sahebganj assembly constituency, which is their ancestral home and Muzaffarpur-94, their urban address—and have been issued separate EPIC numbers for each.

This, under election rules, constitutes an offence.

Tejashwi Yadav accused the NDA government of shielding its own leaders.

“When opposition leaders are accused, action is taken immediately, but the leaders of the ruling parties are being protected,” he said.

Response of Veena Devi on the Election Commission notice:

Responding to the notice, Veena Devi clarified, after marriage, my name was registered in the Muzaffarpur urban voter list. Later, while contesting the district council election, my name was also added to the village list. Since then, I have been voting from the village using the EPIC number linked to it in every election since 2001.”

She claimed she had previously applied to the Booth Level Officer (BLO) to remove her urban entry, but no action was taken, and she will now restart the process.

The dual voter issue has become a hot topic in Bihar.

It was earlier raised regarding Tejashwi Yadav himself, followed by names of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Devi surfacing in similar cases.

The Election Commission of India has reiterated its intent to take strict action against anyone found in violation of the rules.
