A great sight, the Indian women’s hockey team visited the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya.

Patna November 14, 2024: The Indian women’s hockey team made a spiritual visit to the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, where they worshipped and paid homage to Lord Buddha.

This visit provided a moment of reflection for the team, currently competing in the Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy held in Rajgir, Bihar.

Alongside the players, members of the physiotherapist team and other support staff joined in the visit.

Indian Women’s Hockey team was welcomed by the chief monk:

Upon arrival at the Mahabodhi Temple, the team was warmly received by the temple’s Chief Monk and officials, who welcomed them with traditional “khadas” (ceremonial scarves) as a gesture of respect and blessing.

During the visit, the players offered flowers and incense at the shrine, immersing themselves in the spiritual ambiance of the Mahabodhi Temple.

The team also took the opportunity to learn more about the temple’s historical and spiritual significance, deepening their understanding of the sacred site.

The visit to the Mahabodhi Temple adds a meaningful layer to the team’s journey in Bihar, bringing a sense of cultural connection and tranquility amidst the competition.

Indian Women’s Hockey team is participating in the Asian championship in Rajgir:

The Indian women’s hockey team, currently competing in the Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Rajgir, Bihar, visited the revered Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya on Wednesday.

The team, accompanied by their physiotherapist and support staff, took time for prayers and spiritual reflection at the temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Buddhism’s most sacred places.

During the visit, the Chief Monk personally welcomed the players, sharing insight into the historical and spiritual significance of Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha is believed to have gained enlightenment.

The players were also invited into the sanctum sanctorum, where they received blessings and participated in a special chant led by the Chief Monk.

The Women’s Asian Hockey championship in Rajgir has drawn teams from across Asia, with players residing in Bodh Gaya during the tournament.

Gaya District Officer Dr. Thyagaraja SM confirmed the team’s visit’ noting that the Indian players took the opportunity to learn more about the spiritual and historical sites of Bodh  Gaya.

This cultural and spiritual experience added a special dimension to the team’s time in Bihar, blending their athletic pursuits with the rich heritage of the region,
