Patna, June 5, 2024: The politics of “offers” has intensified in Bihar following the Lok Sabha election results, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) openly reaching out to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the NDA dismissing the overtures as desperation.
RJD national general secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui’s direct appeal to the Chief Minister:
On Wednesday, RJD national general secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui made a direct appeal to the Chief Minister. “Nitish Kumar should take a tough decision and come together to stop the BJP,” Siddiqui said, hinting at a possible political realignment.
Meanwhile, RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha took sharp digs at the BJP’s electoral performance.
“The voters did not let the BJP reach 272 seats. Even after Modi’s guarantee—buffalo, Mangalsutra and mujra—they won only 240 seats,” Jha remarked.
He also commented on the roles of Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu in the post-poll dynamics.
“ I am aware of Nitish Kumar’s politics and also of Chandrababu Naidu’s politics. Naidu will either correct the person-centric discussion or he will not be comfortable with it,” Jha said. Responding to reports about the RJD’s offer to Nitish Kumar, Saran MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, “You journalists have more information than us. If you get any update about this, please share it with me.”
BJP MP Giriraj Singh dismissed the RJD’s overture:
BJP MP from Begusarai Giriraj Singh also dismissed the RJD’s overture. “Our slogan was ‘400 paar,’ but the tukde-tukde gang managed only 234 seats. BJP alone won 240. In such a situation, they are inviting Nitish Kumar for Tejashwi Yadav. He wants to become Chief Minister of Bihar, which is why this offer is being given,” Singh said.
On the BJP’s comparatively lower performance in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, Singh said the party would introspect.
“It will be reviewed. PM Narendra Modi worked across the country, but the results were not as per our expectations. It will be discussed in the party forum. Narendra Modi is going to become PM once again,” he said.
In Bihar, the NDA won 30 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats, while the INDIA bloc secured 9, and independent candidate Pappu Yadav won 1. Within the NDA, BJP and JDU won 12 seats each, Chirag Paswan’s LJPRV won 5, and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAMS won 1.
Among INDIA allies, RJD won 4, Congress 3, and CPI-ML 2 seats.
Compared to 2019, the NDA lost 9 seats, while the INDIA bloc gained 8.
