Patna, June 1, 2024: The Election Commission of India (ECI) recorded 35.65% voter turnout across eight Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar till 1 pm on Saturday, as polling continues in the final phase of the elections.
Voting is underway in Patliputra, Karakat, Sasaram, Buxar, Jehanabad, Patna Sahib, Arrah and Nalanda, along with a by-election in Agiaon Assembly constituency.
The Election Commission recorded the highest polling in Patliputra:
The Election Commission has recorded 40.78% polling in Patliputra, 39.53% in Karakat, 37.12% in Sasaram, 36.66% in Jehanabad, 33.07% in Arrah, 32.94%, Nalanda, and 29.22% polling in Patna Sahib.

The Election Commission has also recorded 33.10% in the Agiaon by-poll.
Patliputra recorded the highest turnout so far, while Patna Sahib registered the lowest.
In Patliputra, RJD candidate and daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, is contesting for the third time. She faces BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav, her opponent from the previous elections, as well.
In Jehanabad, JDU has renominated sitting MP Chandeshwar Prasad Chandravanshi. He is facing RJD’s Surendra Yadav, whom he defeated by just 1751 votes in the previous election.
Triangular contest in Karakat:
In Karakat, a triangular contest is unfolding due to the entry of Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh. NDA has filed Upendra Kushwaha, while the Grand Alliance candidate is Rajaram Singh Kushwaha.
In Buxar, the main contest is between Mithilesh Tiwari (BJP) and Sudhakar Singh (RJD). Former IPS officer Anand Mishra and strongman Dadan Pahalwan have turned the contest quadrangular.
In Nalanda, this constituency is considered Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s strongest political bastion.
JDU’s Kaushalendra Kumar, a three-term MP (2009, 2014 and 2019), is contesting again. He is up against CPI-ML’s Sandeep Saurav.
In Arrah, a straight fight between RK Singh (BJP) and Sudama Prasad (CPI-ML).
In Patna Sahib, this constituency is considered a stronghold of the BJP. Former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad seeks re-election.
He is challenged by Anshul Avijit, son of former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar.
In Sasaram, the BJP has fielded Shivesh Ram, son of former MP Munilal Ram. He is contesting against Congress candidate Manoj Kumar.
