A Dubai-based NRI couple came to Supaul to participate in the electoral process in Bihar.

Patna, May 7, 2024: As the festival of democracy continues across Bihar, inspiring stories of civic participation are emerging from various constituencies. One such incident was reported from Supaul Lok Sabha constituency, where Pankaj Verma, a Dubai-based businessman, returned to his hometown with his family to cast his vote on Tuesday.

Verma said he makes it a point to return to Bihar every five years to exercise his democratic right in the Lok Sabha elections.

“I have great faith in the democracy of our country. I came here to contribute to the formation of the government. When there is a stable government in India, the sound of Indian democracy resonates across the world,” Verma said.

His wife, Nandita Verma, also shared her views, emphasizing the importance of women’s participation in democracy.

“I have come to vote to strengthen Indian democracy. Women’s safety is very important. The country can truly develop only when half its population is safe and educated,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission reported a 65.01% voter turnout till 5 pm across the five Lok Sabha constituencies—Jhanjharpur, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, and Khagaria—where polling is underway in the third phase.

Among these, Supaul recorded the highest turnout at 58.91%, followed by Araria (58.57%), Madhepura (54.92%), Khagaria (54.35%), and Jhanjharpur (53.29%).

Voting has remained peaceful and is expected to conclude on a high note later in the evening.
