Patna, June 25, 2026: Bihar has achieved a significant milestone in the expansion of its dairy sector, with the formation of 2,000 new dairy cooperative societies during the first quarter under the Chief Minister’s Saat Nischay-3 program.
According to Shirshat Kapil Ashok, Secretary of the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department, the target set for the first quarter has been achieved ahead of schedule through the coordinated efforts of the Department, The Bihar State Milk O-operative Federation Limited (COMFED), district officials, and field-level workers.
Thousands of farmers in Bihar are linked to an organized dairy network:
The newly formed cooperative societies have helped connect thousands of livestock farmers from remote rural areas to the organized dairy sector in Bihar.
Through these societies, milk producers are expected to receive fair prices for milk, regular and timely payments, access to technology support and advisory services, and better market connectivity.
Officials stated that the expansion of the cooperative network is aimed at strengthening the dairy economy at the grassroots level.

The department emphasized that dairy cooperatives serve not only as milk procurement centres but also as instruments for rural economic development.
According to the secretary, the initiative is expected to increase farmers’ incomes, generate rural employment opportunities, strengthen the village economy, and encourage women’s economic participation.
A significant number of women milk producers have reportedly joined the new cooperatives, providing fresh momentum to women’s empowerment in rural Bihar.
Target of 3,000 more societies in Bihar:
Following the successful completion of the first-quarter target, the state government has now set a new goal of establishing 3,000 additional dairy cooperative societies in the upcoming quarter.
The department and COMFED have stated that they are working with full commitment to expand the cooperative dairy network to every village in the state.
Officials described the achievement as an important step toward promoting rural prosperity and advancing a “White Revolution-2” in the state.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to employment generation and support the government’s vision of building a self-reliant Bihar.
The expansion of dairy cooperatives is considered a key component of Bihar’s efforts to strengthen its agricultural and allied sectors while providing sustainable income opportunities to rural households.
