Patna, June 17, 2026: In a review meeting held on Wednesday, Bihar Cooperative Minister Ram Kripal Yadav directed officials to expedite all pending formalities and complete the registration process of the proposed cooperative societies in Raiyam and Sakri under the provisions of the Bihar Co-operative Societies Act 1935.
Reaffirming the state commitment to boosting agricultural profitability and enhancing farmers’ incomes, Ram Kripal Yadav reviewed the progress related to the formation of Raiyam Primary Sugar Mill Co-operative Society and the Sakri Primary Sugar Mill Co-operative Society.
The Sugarcane Industry Department has already issued notifications defining the operational jurisdictions of the proposed mill.
For the proposed Raiyam Sugar Mill, 438 villages in Madhubani district and 580 villages in Darbhanga district have been reserved.
For the proposed Sakri Sugar Mill, 686 villages in Madhubani district and 697 villages in Darbhanga district have been reserved.
Ram Kripal Yadav highlighted the membership drive for farmers:
Ram Kripal Yadav stated that the process of forming both cooperative societies has begun by enrolling sugarcane growers and farmers interested in cultivating sugarcane within the designated areas.
Under the proposed membership criteria, farmers cultivating sugarcane on at least 100 decimals of land within the society’s jurisdiction, or those willing to undertake sugarcane cultivation, will be eligible for membership.
Ram Kripal Yadav said that farmers belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, backward castes, extremely backward castes and women farmers will be eligible if they cultivate or intend to cultivate sugarcane on a minimum of 50 decimals of land.

He said that every applicant must be registered on the Agriculture Department DBT portal.
The society has a fixed membership fee of Rs 500, and the value of one share is equal to Rs 1,000.
To facilitate the formation and registration of both societies, the joint registrar of cooperative societies, Darbhanga Division, has constituted two-member organizer committees.
These committees are responsible for mobilizing farmers, preparing membership records, and completing the documentation required for registration.
Awareness campaign underway:
The Cooperative Department has launched extensive awareness and outreach campaigns at the village and panchayat levels to encourage sugarcane cultivation and cooperative participation.
As part of this initiative, farmer awareness meetings were organized on Wednesday in Hanuman Nagar and Manigachhi blocks of Darbhanga district and Andhratharhi and Ladania blocks of Madhubani district.

During these meetings, officials explained the benefits of becoming members of the proposed cooperative sugar mill societies and encouraged farmers to participate in the initiative.
To simplify the membership process, the Cooperative Department has developed a dedicated online portal.
Officials stated that the portal will be launched shortly, enabling interested farmers to apply digitally for membership in both the Raiyam and Sakri Primary Sugar Mill Cooperative Societies.
