New Delhi, June 9, 2026:
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who has been personally monitoring desilting operations across the national capital, has been informed that an extensive desilting drive of stormwater drains under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is progressing rapidly to ensure monsoon preparedness and reduce the risk of waterlogging.
The desilting exercise was initiated well in advance, following the directions of the Lieutenant Governor.
The primary objective of the drive is to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater, prevent flooding on roads, ease traffic congestion, maintain sanitation standards, and improve the overall condition of public infrastructure during the monsoon season.
DDA has undertaken desilting work in Dwarka and Narela:
As part of the campaign, the DDA is undertaking desilting work on 69 kilometers of stormwater drains in Narela and 192 kilometers in Dwarka.
The operation involves the removal of accumulated silt, debris, vegetation, and other obstructions that impede the free flow of rainwater through the drainage network.
Officials informed that the work is being carried out in a mission mode, and nearly 70 percent of the desilting has already been completed.

The Lieutenant Governor has directed all concerned agencies to complete the remaining work by June 15, 2026, before the onset of the monsoon.
To ensure timely execution and quality compliance, DDA officials are conducting regular inspections and monitoring the progress of the project.
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance drainage efficiency, reduce instances of waterlogging, and facilitate smoother traffic movement during the rainy season.
LG directed DDA officials to expedite works:
Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor had instructed the DDA to undertake a comprehensive desilting exercise across its jurisdiction to ensure that residents of the national capital do not face waterlogging-related difficulties during the monsoon.

The Delhi Development Authority has reiterated its commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure and implementing all necessary measures to provide a safe, clean, and convenient environment for the residents of Delhi during the upcoming rainy season.
