New Delhi, June 2, 2026: In one of the most significant NFL trades of the offseason, the New England Patriots have acquired star wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in Exchange for a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-round selection.

According to sources, the fifth-round pick involved in the deal will be the better of New England’s two selections in that round of the 2027 NFL Draft.

The move ends months of speculation surrounding Brown’s future in Philadelphia and reunites him with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, under whom he began his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans.

Following the trade, Brown posted a heartfelt farewell message to Eagles fans on social media.

‘Playing for this city has been an honor, and I am thankful for every moment I had in midnight green. Thank you, Philly. Much love always. God bless, “brown wrote on Instagram.

Patriots land a Proven No. 1 receiver:

Brown’s arrival gives Patriots quarterback Drake Maye a premier target and significantly upgrades New England’s receiving corps.

The 28-year-old receiver joins a revamped offense that already added Romeo Doubs in Free agency.

Since entering the NFL as a second-round pick in 2019, Brown has established himself as one of the league’s elite wide receivers.

Over his career, he has accumulated 8,029 receiving yards and 56 touchdown receptions, ranking among the NFL’s top performers during that span.

Notably, Brown and Ja’Marr Chase are the only two NFL receivers to record at least 1,000 receiving yards and seven or more touchdown catches in each of the last four seasons.

The Patriots will inherit Brown’s existing contract, which runs through the 2029 season and carries an average annual value of $32 million, making it one of the highest-paying receiver contracts in the league.

Reunion with Mike Vrabel:

A major factor behind the trade appears to be Brown’s longstanding relationship with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Brown played under Vrabel from 2019 to 2021 with the Tennessee Titans, and the two have maintained a close relationship since then.

Reports indicate that New England was among Brown’s preferred destinations, largely because of his trust in Vrabel and the familiarity between the two.

Eagles move forward with new-look receiving corps:

While the trade marked the end of Brown’s successful tenure in Philadelphia, the Eagles had spent much of the offseason preparing for the possibility of his departure.

The organization traded up in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft to select USC standout Makai Lomon and also added Dontayvion Wicks via trade while signing Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore in free agency.

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman explained that the decision was driven by a combination of roster-building considerations, future draft capital, and salary-cap flexibility.

By completing the trade after June 1, Philadelphia can spread Brown’s $40 million salary-cap charge across the 2026 and 2027 seasons, creating additional financial flexibility for future roster moves.

Brown leaves Philadelphia as one of the most productive receivers in franchise history. He recorded the two highest single-season receiving Yardage totals ever by an Eagles player, posting 1,496 yards in 2022 and 11,456 yards in 2023.

With the addition of A.J. Brown, however, New England has made a clear statement that it intends to remain firmly in championship contention.
