Gurugram, May 7, 2026: Dr. Lalit Jain, the Census Director for Haryana, visited Gurugram on Thursday to review the ongoing preparation for the upcoming census operations in the district.

During his visit, he chaired a meeting with administrative officials and reviewed the progress of field-level work, directing authorities to ensure that the survey is conducted transparently and completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Dr. Lalit Jain stated that Gurugram, being a rapidly expanding metropolitan city, requires census operations to be conducted on a comprehensive scale.

He informed officials that the first phase of the census—the house-listing exercise—is currently in progress.

Under this phase, enumerators are collecting information from every household regarding residential conditions and access to basic amenities.

The survey includes details related to electricity supply, availability of drinking water, toilet facilities, LPG connections, vehicle ownership, and structural condition of houses.

He added that the administration has set a target to complete the house-listing process by May 31.

Census to be conducted fully through digital mode:

Dr. Lalit Jain highlighted that this year’s census operations are being carried out entirely through digital means.

Enumerators will collect and upload information using a dedicated mobile application, which is expected to make the process significantly faster and more efficient compared to previous census exercises.

Dr. Lalit Jain also reassured citizens regarding data privacy, stating that the information collected during the census would remain completely secure and would not be shared with any external agency.

At the same time, he cautioned residents against misinformation, clarifying that personnel associated with it would never ask citizens for OTPs or Aadhaar numbers during the survey process.

Dr. Lalit Jain appealed to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and management bodies of large residential societies to cooperate with census personnel and allow them smooth access to colonies and apartment complexes.

He informed that all authorized workers would carry official identity cards and QR codes, enabling residents to verify their credentials and authenticity before sharing any information.

Dr. Jain emphasized that census data plays a crucial role in helping governments formulate future development strategies and public welfare schemes.

Addressing concerns related to security restrictions in some residential societies, Dr. Jain directed district authorities to coordinate with local representatives and work toward practical solutions.

He also instructed the district administration to establish a dedicated district-level control room or helpline mechanism similar to the existing state-level setup.

Referring to the state toll-free helpline number 1855, he said a local support system should be created so that workers can receive immediate assistance in case of any field-related difficulties.

Additionally, Dr. Lalit Jain suggested deploying field trainers within the control room and sharing their contact details with enumerator teams to ensure the quick resolution of operational issues.

Census work is described as a national responsibility:

Calling the exercise a matter of national importance, Dr. Lalit Jain urged officers and field staff to carry out their duties with complete sincerity and dedication.

“This is not merely a government assignment, but a national responsibility, “he told officials, assuring them that the administration would provide all necessary support for the successful completion of the exercise.

The meeting was attended by Jyoti Nagpal, District Education Officer, Captain Indu Bokan, Assistant Director of Census, Gurvinder Pal Singh, District Coordination Officer for Census, Devesh Bansal, ADIO Naveen, along with Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, and other district officials.
