Patna, April 10, 2026: As Chief Minister Nitish Kumar prepares to take oath as a Rajya Sabha member, political activity has intensified in Bihar. In a show of emotional appeal, supporters of the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) have put up posters across Patna urging him not to step away from state politics.
The poster, put up by JD(U) worker Krishna Patel, has been displayed at the party office and various locations across the city. It features images of Nitish Kumar, his son Nishant Kumar, and JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha.
The message on the poster reads: “Do not abandon Bihar; do not leave us—the people of Bihar—orphaned.” It further adds that Nitish Kumar’s mission remains incomplete and expresses hope that Nishant Kumar will carry it forward.
Political transition gains momentum after Nitish Kumar’s entry in the Rajya Sabha:
Nitish Kumar, who has been serving as Bihar’s Chief Minister since 2005, was elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16 and resigned from his legislative Council membership on March 30. He has now reached Delhi to take the oath as a Member of Parliament.

Upon arrival in Delhi, Nitish Kumar indicated that he may shift his base to the national capital and hand over responsibilities to new leadership within the next few days. This has fueled speculation about an imminent leadership change in Bihar.
New government formation on the horizon:
Following his oath-taking and expected return to Patna, the process of forming a new government in Bihar is likely to begin after April 13.
A meeting of NDA constituent parties has already been scheduled to finalize leadership decisions.
The new government is expected to be formed after the end of Kharmas.

Significantly, political developments suggest that Bihar may see a BJP Chief Minister for the first time, with key deliberations taking place in Delhi. Senior BJP leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers, have already reached the capital for high-level meetings.
Emotional appeal meets political reality:
While party workers continue to appeal for Nitish Kumar to remain in Bihar, the political transition appears imminent. The coming days are expected to be crucial in determining the state’s leadership and the future course of Bihar politics.
