Patna, April 8, 2026: In a major political development in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to visit New Delhi on Thursday and take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on April 10.

The announcement was made by senior minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, who stated that Nitish Kumar, elected to the Rajya Sabha on March 16, will formally assume office in the Upper House of Parliament. He had earlier resigned from his MLA position on March 30.

Chaudhary also remarked that “auspicious works are done at the right time,” expressing confidence that the formation of a new government in the state would also take place at an appropriate moment.

His statement has fueled speculation that Nitish Kumar may step down as Chief Minister after returning from Delhi.

Nitish Kumar government’s appointment drive in health sector:

The statement came before an appointment letter distribution ceremony held at the Energy Auditorium in Patna, where Nitish Kumar inaugurated the event and personally handed appointment letters to selected candidates.

A total of 4,954 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) were appointed across the state in a significant boost to the healthcare system.

The event was attended by Health Minister Mangal Pandey, senior officials, and other dignitaries.

According to an official, the appointments aim to strengthen primary healthcare services, particularly in rural areas.

The newly recruited ANMS will be deployed across more than 2,000 health centers, helping improve maternal and child healthcare, immunization services, and basic medical care.

Government highlights employment push:

Health Minister Mangal Pandey stated that around 20,000 jobs have been provided in the Health Department over the past year.

He emphasized that the recruitment drive reflects the government’s commitment to both employment generation and strengthening healthcare infrastructure.

Officials noted that the ANM appointments were part of a long-pending recruitment process that has now been improving grassroots-level health services.

The political implications of Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha are being closely watched, as Bihar may soon witness a significant shift in leadership alongside ongoing governance initiatives.
