Patna, March 26, 2926: Bihar—long regarded as a consumption-driven economy—is steadily transforming into an emerging production hub, with significant industrial investments beginning to take root across the state.
Marking a new chapter in industrial growth and economic development, several leading companies—including Haldiram’s and Adani Power Limited—have expressed readiness to invest in Bihar.
According to the state’s Industries Department, Haldiram’s is set to invest Rs 300 crore to establish a large-scale food processing hub in Sikandarpur village, located within the rapidly developing Bihta Industrial Area in Patna district.
This project is expected not only to strengthen Bihar’s position in the food processing sector but also to generate thousands of local employment opportunities.
Bihta emerging as Bihar’s industrial growth engine:
The Bihta Industrial Area, situated around 35 kilometers west of Patna, is fast emerging as a major industrial and investment destination.
Often referred to as part of “Greater Patna,” the region is strategically positioned and is being developed under the supervision of the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority.
With strong connectivity via rail—proximity to Bihta Railway Station—and road networks linking it to Patna, the region is witnessing rapid industrial and real estate expansion. Its closeness to the proposed Patna International Airport further enhances its attractiveness for investors.

The Sikandarpur Industrial Area within Bihta has evolved into a planned, investor-friendly zone with modern infrastructure and industrial facilities.
Several important facilities are already operational in the region, strengthening its industrial ecosystem.
An Integrated Irradiation Centre offering cold storage and pathogen reduction services, a centre of Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology providing technical education and industry support, and a major manufacturing unit of Britannia Industries.
The industrial area spans approximately 41.37 hectares, with over 97 acres available for further development, making it one of the most promising industrial clusters in the state.
Adani Power’s mega project in Bhagalpur signals Bihar’s industrial momentum:
Adani Power Limited is developing a major Greenfield thermal power project in Pirpanti, located in the Bhagalpur district.
This project is being seen as one of the largest private sector investments in Bihar’s power sector in recent years.
The project is expected to significantly boost employment generation in the region.
During the construction phase, around 10,000 to 12,000 jobs are likely to be created, while approximately 3,000 permanent jobs will be generated once the plant becomes operational.
Once completed, the plant will supply 2,274 MW of electricity to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, strengthening power availability across the state.

For the project, nearly 1,050 acres of land have been leased for a period of 33 years. However, the land leasing arrangement has also drawn scrutiny and sparked discussions regarding its terms and conditions.
The project reflects the broader impact of Bihar’s improving infrastructure and industry-friendly policies.
With large-scale investment now materializing on the ground, the state is gradually transitioning toward becoming a key destination for industrial and energy sector growth.
Bihar eyes industrial transformation under Nitish Kumar’s leadership:
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar is steadily emerging as a preferred investment destination, driven by progressive policies and improving infrastructure.
Key initiatives such as the Bihar Industrial Investment Promotion Package 2025 and special concessions in land allotment have opened new avenues for industrial growth.

Highlighting these efforts, Industries Minister Dilip Jaiswal stated that Bihar is now poised for an industrial revolution, with a focus on creating opportunities and ensuring self-reliance for the state’s youth.
He emphasized that sustained policy reforms, infrastructure development, and investment facilitation through agencies like Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority and Invest Bihar are accelerating the state’s journey toward becoming a hub of industry and innovation.
From MSMEs to Semiconductors: A broad industrial vision:
The state government is focusing on a multi-sectoral growth strategy—ranging from MSMEs and startups to advanced industries.
Bihar has set an ambitious target of emerging as India’s “eastern Tech Hub” by 2030.
With a forward-looking approach, the state is also working toward building a semiconductor ecosystem, aiming to support the entire value chain—from design to manufacturing—backed by policy stability, ease of doing business, and investor confidence.
Gaya emerging as a major industrial hub:
In a significant move, the government has designated Gaya as a major industrial hub, anchored by the development of an Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) at Dobhi.
Spread across approximately 1,670—1,700 acres, the IMC is being fast-tracked to attract large-scale investments in sectors such as textiles, food processing, leather goods, and engineering.
The project is expected to generate over one lakh employment opportunities.

Strategically located near the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Golden Quadrilateral (NH-19), and in proximity to Gaya International Airport, the cluster offers strong logistical and multimodal connectivity advantages.
The Dobhi IMC is being developed with modern industrial infrastructure, including plug-and-play manufacturing facilities, solid waste management systems, and common effluent treatment plants.
The hub is also targeting high-growth sectors such as auto components, electronics, furniture, handloom, and pharmaceuticals.
Additionally, other projects like a textile factory in Guraru are being developed to complement the region’s industrial ecosystem.
Building a heritage to high growth future:
With a strong push on industrialization, Bihar is moving from its traditional identity toward a high-growth economic model.
The state’s strategy—combining policy support, infrastructure development, and investment promotion—is aimed at transforming it into a manufacturing powerhouse in eastern India.
As Minister Dilip Jaiswal noted, the goal is not just industrial growth, but creating employment, empowering youth, and building a self-reliant Bihar—truly transitioning from heritage to high growth.
