Patna, March 17, 2026: The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC has intensified tunnelling work for Corridor 2 (Red Line) of the Patna Metro, marking significant progress in the city’s underground transit infrastructure.

Corridor 2 will comprise a total of 12 stations, of which seven are underground, highlighting the scale of construction beneath Patna.

Five of these stations fall under the designated priority corridor.

A key section currently under development is the 1 kilometre underground stretch between Moin-ul-Haq Metro Station and Rajendra Nagar Metro Station, where tunneling work is progressing steadily.

Patna Metro officials highlighted engineering challenges and progress:

According to PMRC officials, the work involves complex engineering due to the city’s dense population, existing railway lines, and limited urban space.

“While tunnelling machines are currently working beneath the surface, this route will soon carry thousands of commuters, offering relief from traffic congestion and daily stress,” an official said.

Engineers are working round-the-clock to ensure that construction proceeds without disrupting life above ground, even as critical infrastructure for the city’s future is being built below.

Officials described Corridor 2 as more than just an infrastructure project, calling it a major step toward transforming daily commuting in Patna.

“Places where people are currently stuck in traffic will soon become points from where the Metro will carry them to their destinations within minutes,” the official added.

Once operational, the corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time, ease congestion, and provide a faster and more reliable mode of transport for residents.

The project is being seen as a key milestone in shaping a modern, efficient, and commuter-friendly Patna.

Inspection of Malahi Pakdi-Khemnichak stretch:

Earlier on March 10, an important inspection was carried out on the Malahi Pakdi-Khemnichak stretch of the priority corridor of the Patna Metro as part of preparations for the project’s upcoming operations.

Pradeep Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Railway Safety, conducted a detailed inspection of critical systems and passenger facilities to ensure that the corridor meets the highest standards of safety, reliability and operational readiness.

During the visit, several technical and passenger-related facilities of the priority corridor were thoroughly examined, including the UPS Room, the lifts, the escalators, the ASS Room, the SCR Room, the platform-level infrastructure, and overhead equipment height measurement along the corridor.
