Telecommunication Engineering Centre to organize an international workshop on 6G standardization.

New Delhi, March 16, 2026: The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Communication, Government of India, will organize an international workshop on 6G standardization on March 18, 2026, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

The initiatives align with the Government of India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Bharat 6G Vision, aiming to position India as a global leader in the design, development, and deployment of 6G technologies by 2030.

TEC focuses on the global 6G roadmap:

The workshop will bring together experts from government, industry, academia, and international standardization bodies to deliberate on the global roadmap for sixth-generation (6G) telecommunications technologies and to strengthen India’s participation in international standards development.

Union Minister of Communications and Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will deliver the inaugural address, while Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, will deliver the special address.

Senior officials from the Department of Telecommunications, representatives of international telecom organizations, industry leaders, technology experts, and members of the research community are expected to attend the event.

Key discussion themes:

The workshop will feature technical sessions and expert discussions focusing on major components of the emerging 6G ecosystem, including global roadmap 6G standardization, evolution of network architecture for next0generation communication systems, spectrum planning for future mobile networks, integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in telecom networks, security and trust frameworks for future communication systems, developments in Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies, emerging 6G applications and use cases, India’s roadmap toward 2030 for next-generation communications.

Strengthening India’s global role:

The workshop aims to strengthen domestic innovation and India’s role in global telecom standardization, particularly as global discussions around IMT-2030 and future mobile communication systems gain momentum.

By bringing together key stakeholders, the event will provide an important platform to review global developments and explore opportunities for India to shape the future architecture of global telecommunications.

 The Telecommunication Engineering Centre formulates technical standards, specifications, and conformity assessment requirements for telecom equipment and networks in India, ensuring interoperability, quality, and alignment with global best practices.

The Telecommunication Engineering Centre also represents India in international forums such as the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) and the International Telecommunication Union Radio (ITU-R), while coordinating national working groups for global telecom standardization activities.
