Nitish Kumar honours U-19 Cricket World Cup champion Vaibhav Suryavanshi with Rs 50 lakh.

Patna, February 22, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday extended heartfelt congratulations to Vaibhav Suryavanshi for making Bihar proud with his outstanding performance in India’s triumph at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026.

At a felicitation ceremony held in Patna, Nitish Kumar honoured the young cricketer with a cash award of Rs 50 lakh.

Welcoming Viabhav, Nitish Kumar draped him with a shawl, blessed him, and wished him continued success in bringing glory to the nation.

“Bihar cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a crucial role in India’s victory in the Under-19 World Cup 2026. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket through his hard work and talent. I wish Vaibhav Suryavanshi to create new records for the Indian team in the future and bring glory to the country,” Kumar said.

Apart from Nitish Kumar, other senior leaders laud Bihar’s rising cricket star:

Several senior leaders were present at the ceremony, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh, and Water Resource Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary.

Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that ace batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi hails from Samastipur, which is also his home district.

It is a matter of great pride for me that he is from Bihar and from Samastipur. We will always respect him and wish him success so that he continues to be an honour to Bihar and the country,” he said.
