Amit Shah chairs a high-level review meeting on development projects in Jammu & Kashmir.

New Delhi, February 7, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting in Jammu to assess the progress of major development projects in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting focused on key sectors including road infrastructure, power, industry, tourism, 4G and optical fibre connectivity, and was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from the Central Government and the J&K administration.

Amit Shah says Centre is committed to a developed and prosperous J&K:

Addressing the meeting, Amit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India remains firmly committed to building a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that due to the sustained and focused efforts of the Modi government, development projects in the Union territory have witnessed unprecedented progress.

The Home Minister emphasized the need to fully harness Jammu and Kashmir’s hydropower potential and directed officials to ensure 100% saturation of government welfare schemes, so that the benefits of development reach every eligible citizen.

Tourism, sports and youth development:

Highlighting the growing enthusiasm of tourists to visit Jammu and Kashmir, Shah said that tourism demand has remained strong across the country. He stressed the need for aggressive promotion and marketing of J&K’s tourist destinations in other states to further unlock the region’s vast tourism potential.

He assured that the government of India will extend all possible assistance for the development of new tourist destinations in the Union Territory.

The Union Home Minister also underlined the importance of developing sports infrastructure and establishing sports academies to engage youth in constructive activities and connect them with development.

He stated that efforts would be made to mobilize around Rs 200 crore in investment by engaging with various sports bodies.

In addition, Shah called for initiatives to strengthen the dairy sector in Jammu and Kashmir with support from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

Financial support and fiscal stability:

In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir has been brought under the ambit of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme for the first time in FY 2026-26.

This will enable the Union territory to access 50-year interest-free loans for capital expenditure projects.

The Home Minister noted that improved fiscal discipline and targeted capital investment would help stabilize the Union territory’s fiscal deficit over time.

Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047:

Amit Shah reiterated that India is steadily moving towards the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, marking 100 years of independence, and assured that the Government of India will continue to provide wholehearted support to Jammu and Kashmir in achieving this vision.

He said his visit reflects the Centre’s firm resolve to ensure development, peace, and security in Jammu and Kashmir, making it a top national priority.
