Bihar CM Nitish Kumar honours blind Women’s World Cup winner Anu Kumari.

Patna, February 6, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday honoured Anu Kumari, a key member of the victorious Indian team of the first Blind Women’s T20 World Cup-2025, by presenting her with a cheque of Rs 23,43,750 and a traditional shawl in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the historic win.

Anu Kumari played a crucial role in India’s triumph in the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup-2025, delivering impactful performances—particularly with her bowling—that helped the team clinch the title.

During the ceremony, Anu Kumari presented the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with a memento featuring a cricket bat and ball as a token of gratitude.

Player expresses gratitude towards Chief Minister Nitish Kumar:

Thanking the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Anu Kumari said that the players were progressing confidently with the continuous support of the Bihar government.

She said the state government is encouraging athletes and providing all possible morale across sporting disciplines. “Sports infrastructure in Bihar has developed remarkably. Players are benefiting from it, and Bihar is now being praised across the country in the field of sports,” she said, adding that players from outside the state also commend Bihar after competing here.

Journey from a humble background:

Anu Kumari hails from a modest family in Mukundpur village under Simri police station of Buxar district.

Her father, Sohan Choudhary, expressed pride in his daughter’s achievements, recalling her dedication and hard work since childhood.

He said that the Bihar Cricket Association identified her talent and gave her an opportunity, after which her career progressed rapidly, leading to her selection for the national team.

Anu bowls very well and played a vital role in India’s victory in the Blind Women’s T20 World Cup-2025. I am proud to be the father of a daughter who has brought recognition to our family and society,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister, he added that Nitish Kumar’s initiatives are empowering daughters across Bihar, and families like theirs are deeply thankful for the support.

Several senior leaders and officials were present on the occasion, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh, Primcipal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Secretaries to the Chief Minister Anupam Kumar, Kumar Ravi, and Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Sports Department Secretary Mahendra Kumar, Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority Ravindran Shankaran, coach Shika, and Sohan Chaudhary, along with other senior officials.
