Patna, January 3, 2026: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday underscored the critical role of technology in making the justice system more transparent, accessible, and people-centric, stating that the right technological interventions can significantly expedite justice delivery, especially for citizens living in remote areas.
Addressing a gathering at the Patna High Court, CJI Surya Kant said that the digitization of judicial records and data can transform institutions into more user-friendly ones.
Technology can empower the poor, underprivileged, and vulnerable sections of society by providing them effective access to justice,” he said, while emphasizing the urgent bridge the digital divide to ensure an inclusive justice system.
During the occasion, CJI Surya Kant laid the foundation stone for seven major projects.
These include the I-block building, hospital building, multi-level parking facility, Advocate General’s office, staff quarters, annexe building, and other essential structures.
The projects aim to significantly enhance institutional efficiency and strengthen the justice delivery mechanism.
CJI Surya Kant highlighted Bihar’s historical legacy and judicial values:
Referring to Bihar’s rich historical tradition, CJI Surya Kant said Nalanda University was not merely an architectural marvel but a global hub of open debate, logical thinking, and knowledge exchange.
“Similarly, ancient Patliputra symbolized not just power, but public welfare and administrative efficiency,” he said.
He added that the Patna High Court has emerged as a strong pillar for upholding constitutional values, personal freedoms, and the expansion of judicial rights.
Highlighting the utility of the proposed auditorium and hospital building, CJI Surya Kant said the auditorium could become a vital centre for judicial deliberation and dialogue.
The hospital building reminds us that justice is delivered not by machine, but by human beings. The health of judicial officers and staff working under stressful conditions is extremely important,” he said.
Emphasizing the core spirit of justice, CJI Surya Kant said the true meaning of justice lies in giving a voice to the weakest person and ensuring that those in need receive timely justice.
